This medium-load truck, in the 5-ton category, is representative of the current generation of US Armed Forces logistics vehicles. It entered service in the early eighties. The M-923 has an extremely robust structure and excellent off-road capabilities, necessary to ensure the flow of material to the frontline combat units. Based on this chassis, several versions were produced: demolition trucks, tank trucks, mobile maintenance and communication trucks. The A-1 version is characteristic because of its large off-road tires, which earned it the nickname "bigfoot".
